I have completed the paper piecing for the church and school house on the kit, "Quilted Village." Now to work on the stitching the trees and birds.
Why all the DMC floss? I was lamenting the incredibly high prices for DMC floss in Paris on Facebook and a very thoughtful friend grabbed several colors at Hobby Lobby and handed them to my husband the morning before his flight left for Paris. He had been in the Memphis...the center of the Fed Ex universe, this past week. I think I will be turning to my friend there to help me out more often! We do get a very good shipping discount since hubby works for Fed Ex...time to start using it for international shipping.
I also emailed a French blogger to ask where she shops...and she buys mostly from the US. She did send me a huge list of quilt shops in France and recommended one in Paris I am anxious to visit...that is on this week's agenda. They have a website and bali pops from Hoffman are $55 in US dollars...but I will be able to see batik fabrics! I definitely won't be complaining any more about the prices at my favorite quilt shops in Alaska.
Lucky you are to have a Fedex Hubby !!!
ReplyDeletethat's great that hubby was able to bring you home some embroidery! Every time he has to fly to the states you need to make him out a list!
ReplyDeletehave fun at the French shops even if you do not buy anything.
Antiques and fabrics are the two things I enjoy shopping for, not necessarily buying but looking and thinking of ways to use them. Paris and I would get along great (except for the cost of living).
ReplyDeleteThese are so pretty so far! I'm loving watching you work on this project. So nice of your friend to get a bunch of DMC floss to your hubby to take back for you. It sparked a memory of the few years in my childhood that we lived in Tehran - Every time somebody was going "back to the States" the ladies became a flurry of organizing how many chocolate chips and peanut butter jars could be brought back for whom. lol!!
ReplyDeleteI love your project so nice.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty indeed and I will say that I try not to complain too much about the prices of fabric when I hear about how much it is in other parts of the world! The price had made me purchase only what I need and eliminate those impulse buys!
ReplyDeleteOne would think DMC would be cheaper in Paris. Isn' it made in France? I just checked a skein of mine and it says "Made in France" but on the other side it says "For sale only outside the European Union" whatever that means! Makes you wonder.
