Stitching Sunday

I'm making progress on a stocking...

I've started a Nancy Halvorsen design...

lots of fusible web appliqué.
Why do I get suckered into her designs? I absolutely hate quilting on fusible web!

This time around I trimmed every bit of fusible web to less than a 1/4" outline. I feel like I'm "wasting" a lot of fusible web but I already can see the final quilt will be much less stiff than previous quilts I've made. (I have made several of Nancy's projects over the years...completely adorable but I detest the stiffness of some of the quilts.)

After getting everything cut out and partially fused I decided to redo all the numbers to a dark gold. I bought this book and fabric so long ago that I can't remember my original intention for color placement...but it seemed obvious to me a change was needed.

Much better with the dark gold numbers! Everything is fused...now to tackle the topstitching.

  1. that's cute - both the sock and the quilt. You are going to have plenty of Xmas socks to decorate the Paris apartment for Christmas at the end of the year at this rate.

  3. Love this pattern! It's amazing how such a small change from the light to the gold numbers makes such a dramatic influence.
I agree 100% about the stiffness of my Nancy Halvorsen quilt, but I sure do love it anyway.
Thanks for linking up to Slow Sunday Stitching!

  4. So fun!! I can easily see how you got suckered into another one of these designs. :) I recently tried trimming out the guts of fusible stuff, too, and it makes a remarkable difference, doesn't it? Harder to work with it, but well worth the hassle.
