I officially finished the Santa ornament set from a Bucilla kit. Lots of hours spent on these babies...
I spent yesterday blocking a quilt for entry in the Alaska state fair. I have never entered any quilt show and I decided on my trip to Paducah this spring that I really needed to participate as an exhibitor...after all...the quilts in those shows have to come from someone. I know what I think could be better in every quilt I make...it will be interesting to see what the judges find.
I'm going with my design, "Kachemak Baywatch." A 94-inch square. I may also do my River Rocks lap-sized quilt but haven't blocked it yet. I used my fiberglass insulation boards that serve as my design walls. I was happy to find floor space for two of them. It worked perfectly. Saw this idea on someone's blog a few years ago. I need to sew on a sleeve for hanging today...surely they will pick it for displaying! If they don't, I will, once I get it home.
Debbie, that quilt is beautiful. If you can attend the judging, it is so informative and most often the judges give good, constructive, and favorable remarks to learn from and also enjoy. But I understand it takes courage to "Put" your quilt out there. I have been entering the fairs for about 4 years now and won Grand Champion this year, woohoo and beat out some excellent quilters. Now I am considering dipping my toe in the "big girl" shows. Will see. Best of luck.

That quilt is gorgeous... I'm sure you will do very well at the fair. I know it can be a bit scary...I've entered my quilt in contests before but I find the critique from the judges can be very helpful. I've never received a negative comment without a positive comment. I have a dear friend who is a NQA certified judge and she believes the best judging is one that along with praise for your accomplishment, gives you suggestions for improving. Good Luck! But I don't think you'll need it.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt Debbie !! Fingers crossed !
ReplyDeleteGood luck ! ;)
Debbie: I agree with everyone else who have commented already...your quilts are gorgeous and you have nothing to fear from showing them and having them judged...critique is helpful so we can learn how to improve on our skills. Bon Chance!
ReplyDeleteLove your Bucilla ornaments, just perfect as usual. I am sure that everyone will absolutely love your quilts, they are certainly a high standard so fingers crossed we will see your name on the winners stand soon.
