Design Wall Monday - Seeing Double

I have begun working in earnest on my January UFO. I was just planning on making one quilt but this project has doubled. This is a quilt that started as a shop hop for Alaska in 2010. I love batiks so when I saw the design I was hooked.

I started collecting all the blocks. There were 13 quilt shops participating around the state. Each shop's package contained all the fabric needed to make an applique block plus one of the setting blocks and four strips for the border. Then I saw the finishing kit, Northern Threads, a quilt shop in Fairbanks put together.

I loved this even more! So I bought the finishing kit which had fabric for everything but the applique pieces. The applique blocks are on larger blocks for this setting and a slightly different color. So I couldn't just use the blocks I had started to make from the original kits. Now I am forced to make two quilts. It will be fun to see which one I prefer when it is all done.

They are both stunning quilts, but I think I prefer the first one. I love the applique squares. Gor-gee-us

are the patterns for the applique blocks still for sale? I love the ones with the flowers. I have two applique blocks that I have finished with flowers and need to do something with them - this quilt you show gives me ideas.

I love the applique blocks. I can see why you fell so in love with them that you decided to do both.

Hi Deb, I am looking forward to see you all. I will be in ER from Jan 30 - Feb 15. Hey are you making all of these blocks set on point. I am only asking because the picture of the first pattern doesn't look like it is on point. hugs and hope to see you soon.
